Trial and Error
Well Tyler has been on Alimentum for 2 weeks now and he is still having a hard time digesting it. I have an order in for Neocate and I can't wait to get it so Tyler will be comfortable again. I went to the store today and picked up some ground oats and a couple jars of baby food, pears, bananas and carrots....They are sitting on my counter haunting me, I really want to introduce solids to Tyler but I'm so afraid he will have another FPIES attack! So far he cannot have dairy, soy or rice. He was solely breastfed and 3 out of the many times we ended up at the ER were the 3 seperate occations I introduced him to a different formula. The first time it was regular formula, 2nd attack was rice cereal (thinking we are helping him with his acid reflux), and the last time it was the soy formula and each time is was no more than a teaspoon that he had to ingest to create his reactions. I'm very aware of what not to give him and I want to start with veggies but my gosh...once you go through that 3 times with a little baby no more than 12lbs. you tend to be quite hesitant. I really dislike the trial and error part of raising a child with FPIES, at least now we know what we're dealing with and how to get the proper treatment asap!

heather... little tyler is so blessed to have such wonderful parents... always remember that. Also remember that each and everything that you do for him or give to him is only done with love and thoughtfulness. You know the routine now and I am sure are very good at it, if he reacts to something you know you can handle it and get him the help he needs. He is one very lucky boy and please pat yourself on the back every so often as you so deserve it.
ReplyDeleteTake care and good luck.
